News from the front

So, we are at the end of the first quarter of the year, and where has the time gone. The work of the Rose Ananse Memorial Hospice Care teams goes on providing palliative care and emotional support to all who are in need.

Since November last year to January this year the team have been working with a wide range of families, ages, and gender from a 19 to a 94-year-old and many others with a variety of cancers.

In addition to the daily home visits ranging across the wonderful city of Kumasi, the team make multiple telephone calls of support and check ups on the families in their care.

These cover everything from the practical physical care of the patient to providing information of the cancer, the side effects and emotional support to the whole family into and though any mourning periods.

An example –  is the visits to a 94-year-old lady, mother of 8 children of which 7 have now passed away The team have tended her physical needs but just as important they have supported her and her remaining daughter through their loss and grief Their weekly visits bring much appreciated solace.

The young 19-year-old who is now has sever bone pains and complications from the radiotherapy and the team is ensuring that she has as much help with the pain management as is possible, while trying to bring care and compassion to the family in this final period of their daughter’s life

Reading the teams reports and trying to edit them for publication gives the realisation of the courage, and multiple skills these individuals need and the support we can offer from African Health Foundation pales in significance but encourages us to carry on raising awareness and funds for their work  We are looking for financial support every year and are asking for donations no matter how small since every pound counts Please check our website and make a contribution
